Heimtextil 2015 to Spotlight Sustainability

Download the New Wave report on the efforts taken by major denim players to deliver sustainable solutions across the supply chain and ultimately improve the health of the planet.

The largest home textile trade show will have an edge on sustainability. Heimtextil, set for Jan. 14-17 in Frankfurt, Germany, will highlight sustainability issues with special displays, events and a directory focused on helping attendees find more Earth-friendly solutions.

Olaf Schmidt, Messe Frankfurt vice president for textiles and textile technologies, said as organizers of the world’s leading trade fair for home textiles, Messe Frankfurt is responsible for helping to strengthen the demand for green textiles and innovations. He added, “Therefore, Heimtextil offers a forum for companies committed to sustainability, puts the focus on products that conserve resources and holds a complementary program of events within the framework of the fair. Because we believe the future belongs to the green market.”

A Green Directory, available for all attendees, containing an overview of all exhibitors who offer sustainable working practices, is part of the fair’s initiative. Stands will also be outfitted with eco symbols to help visitors find certified vendors—or guests can take the Green Tour on the second day of the show, which will guide participants to sustainable suppliers.

Special displays, located in Heimtextil’s first-ever Green Village, will shine a spotlight on companies awarded seals of approval by certification organizations and sustainability interest groups. Experts will also be on hand to offer attendees professional advice on sustainability issues, while a guided tour of the show’s “Theme Park”—a comprehensive display and forum aimed to inspire solutions to issues becoming relevant in the sector—will give guests concrete examples of selected sustainable materials.

The event will round out with an entire day’s worth of sustainability-themed lectures, set to take place on the Jan. 16. The discussion groups, led by renowned representatives of the sector, are aimed at fostering the consideration of sustainability, social standards and corporate social responsibility.
