What Hohenstein’s New Digital Fitting Lab Means for Virtual Design

With the launch of Hohenstein’s new Digital Fitting Lab Brands, retailers and suppliers now have access to advanced 3D design, fitting and visualization services to implement or supplement their 3D design process.

The Digital Fitting Lab utilizes Hohenstein’s deep knowledge of pattern making and fit development, along with digital design technologies, to reduce physical prototypes and material waste, shorten development times, develop more accurate fit across sizes and create engaging imagery for sales and marketing.

Hohenstein is an international testing partner in the textile industry with research that centers around the interaction between textiles, humans and the environment. Companies work with Hohenstein’s experience engineers, 3D fitting experts and pattern designers to review and optimize their processes, adapt them to 3D and implement an effective digital workflow.

The new Digital Fitting Lab also accesses Hohenstein’s material testing lab for digitizing material parameters. It covers all requirements for successful and efficient translation of 3D designs into well-fitting products and realistic digital product communication.

These include sizing, where the knowledge and the measurements of the target group are crucial; patternmaking, as a solid pattern is a prerequisite for good fit and consistent manufacturing and the basis for using avatars that create a life-like representation of the target group to help design across sizes and project brand image.

Also involved are realistic material simulation; 3D imagery that aids product communication or supplier instructions; 3D fitting where digital prototyping can be done with the wholistic knowledge of shapes, construction and materials, and “Fit in motion” of 4D, as movement affects fit and appearance, and fit affects movement.

Hohenstein also provided consulting services, workshops and the Hohenstein Academy to help get team members and suppliers working efficiently. Related modular services are available for companies at any phase of the 3D development process. The Digital Fitting Lab customizes services for use with various 3D simulation software.

Hohenstein is a founding member and leading provider of the Oeko-Tex portfolio of services, such as the Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex certification, the international standard for safe textiles, and is certified by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission as a third-party, independent laboratory for compliance verification.
