Texworld New York City and Apparel Sourcing Return for Summer 2022

With trade events coming back in full swing, Texworld New York City and Apparel Sourcing are teaming up once again for their Summer 2022 edition of the combined event.

The face-to-face meet-ups are meant to connect global manufacturers and suppliers to the U.S. market, ultimately creating more opportunities to support the textile community. Additionally, the event provides resources and a place for inspiration.

Back in-person for the first time since July 2019, the event will be held July 19-21 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. At the event, more than 20 countries will be represented including China, Korea, Taiwan, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, along with new exhibitors from Greece, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Columbia, Peru and the U.S.

“After several virtual editions, we are pleased to be returning to a fully in-person event at the Javits Center this July,” said Jennifer Bacon, vice president, fashion and apparel, Messe Frankfurt Inc. “We look forward to hosting sourcing professionals from every facet of the industry as we introduce a variety of new experiences to engage, network and collaborate.”

To accommodate global suppliers still facing travel restrictions, Texworld is bringing back the Sourcing Showroom event. This platform, which launched in 2021, allows global suppliers to have their products physically represented in the U.S. marketplace. With many improvements made to the technology, buyers can easily scan a specific fabric or apparel piece, discover all its specifications and connect with the supplier instantly on site, even if that supplier couldn’t attend the show. This allows buyers to understand the quality of a piece firsthand and not only in digital format.

Educational seminar

As the industry begins navigating into uncharted territory following the pandemic, business education has become even more important. Texworld’s educational program is back fully in person with its standing partner, Lenzing Fibers Inc. The Lenzing Seminar Series and Textile Talks will be led by industry experts who will cover trend forecasts, industry insights, supply chain policy and transparency, circularity and market intelligence over the course of the three-day event.

At the educational seminar, topics span from “Fashion & Policy: the legislative push to bring transparency and sustainability to the forefront of the fashion industry” and “Circular Re-thinking: How textile-to-textile recycling can make huge strides toward circularity within the textile industry” to “Sustainable Strategies: What they are and how are brands implementing them?”

“Transformation can only happen when we have the facts for action. Environmental sustainability, policy, innovation, transparency and social standards make sourcing textiles even more demanding,” said Tricia Carey, director of global business development Americas and denim at Lenzing Group. “The Texworld NYC seminars provide the edge to know the reality and people who provide solutions to today’s textile sourcing challenges. Lenzing is pleased to support the educational talks highlighting the issues we want to bring to the surface.”

Expanding sourcing opportunities

This year, Texworld is expanding the event, launching into the footwear market to extend sourcing opportunities in collaboration with industry leaders, Material Exchange and the Footwear Distributors & Retailers Association (FDRA). Material Exchange is the top marketplace for sourcing materials and components for footwear and apparel, connecting suppliers and buyers across the globe digitally. The partnership has created a new footwear component showcase called Global Footwear Sourcing.

“Over the last couple of years, the sourcing industry has come to rely heavily on digital connections,” said Darren Glenister, CEO at Material Exchange. “Now, in-person events like FDRA’s and Texworld’s upcoming events are reentering the mainstream, allowing important relationships to be built and nurtured but there’s still a need to maintain these connections throughout the year; that’s where the digital collaboration comes into play. Material Exchange’s platform is the perfect complement to in-person trade shows, enabling industry players to strengthen these valuable relationships over time.”
