Massive Explosion Shakes Chinese Port of Tianjin

A massive explosion has rocked the major port city of Tianjin in northeastern China, reportedly caused by flammable cargo in a container at a terminal in the Binhai District, according to China’s Xinhua News.

The blast, which created a huge mushroom cloud, occurred at around 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time and was reportedly felt as far away as six miles.

Hundreds have been hospitalized, though the number of casualties and injuries is unknown.
