Elevating a brand’s packaging in a sustainable way can sometimes be challenging. Doing so in a cost-effective way is even harder.

Are the results worth it?

Neenah, a specialty paper products and design solutions company, believes they are. “Sustainability is not a buzzword, it’s reality,” said Kristen Duncan, sustainable solutions product manager at Neenah. “So, we must invest and purchase sustainable options. For the fashion industry that starts with packaging. By investing in sustainable packing, we can make significant changes.”

To help brands achieve an elevated look while keeping sustainability top of mind, Neenah invented the NEENAH ENVIRONMENT® Mailer, a curbside recyclable mailer that provides an affordable premium unboxing experience for shoppers while also helping its brand partners eliminate packaging waste.

Some of the NEENAH ENVIRONMENT® Mailer’s features include an expandable gusset so users can pack heavier items, an easy tear strip and a peel seal. Adding to its features, the mailer is also water and tear resistant.

Broadening its horizons, while still keeping the fundamental features the same, Neenah is expanding its offerings to give brands a wider selection to choose from. Now, customers can choose from two colors—white or neutral—and three different sizes: small, medium and large. Additionally, the mailer is now fully customizable so brands can put their own branding on the packaging.

“When we launched the mailer, we recognized that we needed to give people the option to customize the product,” said Duncan in a fireside chat with Kate Nishimura, features editor of Sourcing Journal. “When you think about it, it makes sense because personalization and customization are a macro trend, and everyone wants its packaging to feel unique. That’s why we’re excited about our new features.”

While the NEENAH ENVIRONMENT® Mailer has many benefits, Neenah has no plans to slow down its sustainable initiatives anytime soon.

“In 5 years, I believe Neenah will be a sustainable solutions provider and hopefully leader,” said Duncan. “In the meantime, we are keeping a keen eye on what’s happening from a macro and micro perspective to ensure our initiatives are something that will satisfy consumers’ sustainability needs.”
